Archaeology Notes

NM39NW 1 3148 9933.

(Area: NM 311 997) A horned structure similar to those of the probable early settlement at Gleann Mor St Kilda (NA00SE 1) was found at Airigh na Maith-innse. It consisted of a small enclosure with walls about 4 ft high from whose entrance, pincer-like, ran two lines of closely set stones.

K Williamson and J M Boyd 1963

NM 3148 9933 Description correct. A modern animal enclosure probably for sheep. A similar "fank" occurs at NM 3424 9509, and another at NG 3190 0115.
