3 January 1853, JEAN of Belfast, sloop, Londonderry to Belfast, wind SW force 10, cargo insured #4000, stranded, Rothesay, I. Bute, in a gale of wind. Shipping and Mercantile Gazette.

Rothsay, I.B., 4th Jan. The JEAN (sloop), Welsh, of and for Belfast, from Londonderry, went on shore about two miles from this place last night, has lost her bowsprit, un-shipped her rudder, and stove in part of her stern frame, & must discharge; crew saved.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably suggesting her successful recovery. The nature of the cargo carried remains unclear.
