Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Among the buildings which overlook The Green in Swinton is a terraced row of three two-storeyed cottages. They date from the early or mid-nineteenth century.

Lying to the left of the cottages is a single-storeyed wing, and to the right there is a glazed shop front. This latter feature occupies a former vennel which would once have allowed access to the rear of the building.

Built of sandstone masonry, the cottages are roofed in slate with brick chimney-stacks. The pedimented upper-floor windows are an unusual feature, occurring only on the houses which occupy this part of Main Street.
