Accessing Scotland's Past Project

The stables block which lies about 100m north-west of Newton Don House, was probably built in the early nineteenth century, when considerable alterations and enlargements were made to the mansion house and estate buildings.

Of simple Classical design, the stables are arranged around a courtyard, with the main arched entrance topped with a decorative pediment and a domed clock tower.

Alterations carried out in the late nineteenth century gave parts of the building a more rustic appearance, creating roofs with deep eaves and decorative woodwork.
