In the cliffs of Staffa, opposite the S end of the Herdsman (Am Buchaille: NM 3254 3510) there is a peculiar formation in the rock resembling a large chair set into a niche in the cliff. This feature is known as 'Fingal's Wishing Chair'. This name has apparently been given to the feature within the last 100 years, as Dr Spiker, a German visitor to Staffa in 1816 calls it 'The Priest' and says 'It is believed that at one time there was an altar here.'
