Standing Stone (NR)

OS 6" map, Argyllshire, 2nd ed., (1900)

Standing Stone, Achaban House: An impressive standing stone of red granite is situated some 8m E of Achaban House; aligned N and S, it is 2.4m high, 0.7m broad and 0.5m thick, and rises with straightish sides to a pointed top.

RCAHMS 1980, visited 1973.

This standing stone is identified as one of a series traditionally believed to be guide-posts marking the pilgrim way from Green Point to Iona.

T Maclauchlan 1865.

This stone pillar is as described. It does not appear to be prehistoric and is possibly a route marker as suggested.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (DWR) 22 April 1974.

Scheduled as Achaban House, standing stone.

Information from Historic Scotland, scheduling document dated 8 September 2003.
