(NM 3784 1890 and NM 3786 1889) Standing Stones (NR)
OS 1:10,000 map, (1976)
Standing Stones, Ardalanish Bay: Two stones, one of which is now prone, are situated on level ground 700m SE of Ardalanish farm and within 150m of the shore of Ardalanish Bay. The upright is a rough schist slab with rounded top, now leaning slightly towards the SW; it measures 1.2m by 0.35m at the base and 1.9m in height, with longer axis aligned approximately NW-SE. The fallen stone, a hard sandstone which is said (information from Mrs C Campbell, Ardachy Farm, Ardalanish) to have been standing about 1910, lies 12m to the SE, with only its upper surface exposed. Measuring 2.4m in length by 0.7m in greatest breadth, it bears a circular groove 0.6m in a diameter with a central indentation, which appear to have been made in compartively recent times as if indicating an unsuccessful attempt to cut out a quern-stone.
