Archaeology Notes

NO26SE 12 centred 2653 6383

(Name cited as Cuilt Hill and location as NO 2653 6383). Air photography (AAS/01/09/G16/1-3, 5, flown 12 December 2001) has recorded an area of rig and furrow cultivation within an irregularly-shaped enclosure on the E-facing lower slopes of Cuilt Hill, at the head of the Blackwater Reservoir. The heather-covered footings of two bow-ended houses lie on the western edge of the rigs and within the enclosure on the NW. Outside the enclosure on the SW are the heather-covered footings of a rectangular-shaped building. Amodern track cuts across the rigs and enclosure.

The indicated location lies on a moderate slope at an altitude of 360m OD.
