Archaeology Notes

NM15SW 8 1453 5485.

(NM 1453 5485) There are the remains of a cist on the very summit of Ben Foill (Ben Feall on OS 6"). One end

and side are in position, together with other fallen

stones.

E Beveridge 1903.

This structure cannot definitely be classified as a cist. Presumably once a square structure measuring 0.7m by 0.7m internally formed by four stones on edge, only the W and S stones remain in situ, the largest measuring 0.8m high, 1.0m long and 0.4m thick. The interior is now choked with stones and several other slabs lie around. Classification uncertain.

Visited by OS (I S S) 23 June 1972.

Cist, Ben Feall: On the summit of Ben Feall (66m OD) two adjacent upright slabs represent the S and W sides of a cist which was aligned N and S and measured internally about 0.7m long, 0.6m wide and 0.8m deep. Several loose slabs lying immediately to the N may have formed the missing sides or cover of the cist.

RCAHMS 1980, visited 1975.
