(NM 1561 5304) Crannog (NR)

OS 1:10,000 map, (1976)

Crannog, Breachacha: This crannog, which was situated in the middle of the former loch known as Poll nam Broig, 1km SSW of Breachacha, is now in an arable field, the loch having been drained about 1875. It appears as a flat-topped mound of stones and earth, which measures 2m high, 26m by 21m at the base, and 16m by 11m on the top.

RCAHMS 1980, visited 1974; E Beveridge 1903.

A crannog (dimensions as given) comprising a turf-covered stony mound formed by the addition of stones to a natural rock outcrop which is visible in the E. A mutilation in the SE reveals the stony content. There is no trace of walling.

Revised at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (R L) 1 July 1972.

NM 1561 5303 Oval mound set in marshy area; post-1930 'howking'.
