(NM 1810 5807) Cairn (NR)

OS 1:10,000 map, (1976)

Cairn, Ben Hogh: On the summit of Ben Hogh (103m OD), the highest point on the island of Coll, there is a cairn measuring 8m in diameter and 0.7m in height. Considerable damage has been caused by the erection of an Ordnance Survey triangulation station, but a kerb of boulders survives for a distance of 2.2m on the N side and for a further short stretch on the S; the individual kerb-stones measure up to 0.6m long by 0.4m broad and 0.3m in height.

RCAHMS 1980, visited 1975; E Beveridge 1903.

A turf-covered cairn, generally as described.

Visited by OS (R L) 22 June 1972.
