Archaeology Notes

NM04NW 8 04 44.

"A field in the glebe, about half a mile north from Searinish (NM 04 44), on the south-west side of the road and manse (NM 043 457), is still known as 'Tir a' Chaipeil'. The name seems equally to bear the interpretation of 'the land of the chapel', or 'the chapel lands', but about its centre are the foundations of the east and west walls of some building, which appears to have measured about 50 by 18 feet, perhaps including an annexe."

E Beveridge 1903.

The field 'Tir a' Chaipeil' could not be identified and no evidence of a chapel could be found.

Visited by OS (R D) 26 June 1972.
