Archaeology Notes

NM04NW 17 031 476.

About twenty long low mounds lie at Earnal (NM 031 476) chiefly between the Vaul and Balaphetrish fences but several of them on the Balaphetrish side.

They lie N-S, are broader at the Southern end tapering towards the North and are usually about 3' in height. One much longer than the others, is about 6' high and 80' long.

E Beveridge 1903.

There are numerous clearance heaps and fragments of turf-covered earth and stone dykes at Earnal, and it is almost certain that Beveridge is referring to these. (E Beveridge 1903)

Visited by OS (R D) 30 June 1972; E Beveridge 1903.
