Lion Well Wynd, opened 1750

The best of the town's remaining uphill wynds, built to afford southern access into the town for the itinerant trader. All houses are 19th-century, tight, steep and picturesque. Particularly pretty are Nos 15, 16, 17 & 19, restored by William A Cadell for the Grange Conservation Company. The curved wall at the top of the wynd faces the buttress of the railway embankment as Union Road peeks across the top, and answers its flanking, curved-cornered cottages.

Taken from "West Lothian: An Illustrated Architectural Guide", by Stuart Eydmann, Richard Jaques and Charles McKean, 2008. Published by the Rutland Press http://www.rias.org.uk
