Archaeology Notes

NL94NE 8 965 480.

Kilmoluag - the church of Moluag of Lismore, who died in 592 - is said by Beveridge to have stood at A' Chrois - The Cross - at NL 967 479, but 'Kilmolowaig' is shown on Blaeu's map (Blaeu 1654) in approximately the published position (NL 969 464). The stones of the old chapel were employed to build the walls of cabins, and the space, where the cemetery is shown to have been is now in tillage (W Reeves 1854).

Beveridge (E Beveridge 1903), without stating his authority, suggests that 'Mullach na Croise' (Summit of the Cross, at NL 966 479) should be 'Crois a' Moluag' (Moluag's Cross).

E Beveridge 1903; W Reeves 1854; Blaeu 1654.

No further information.

Visited by OS (D W R) 26 June 1972.

Approximately NL 965 480. Chapel (possible) and Burial-ground, Kilmoluag: There are no indentifiable traces of this burial-ground or chapel which was evidently dedicated to St Moluag and probably occupied a site near the farm of Crois.

RCAHMS 1980, visited 1973.
