Archaeology Notes

NJ71NW 216 7238 1785

There are three enclosures, their walls reduced to grass-grown banks, in mixed deciduous woodland about 220m SE of Yarrowhillock farmsteading (NJ71NW 95.00).

The enclosures are not depicted on either the 1st or the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1869, sheet liv; 1901, sheet liv.SW), but an estate plan of 1838 (Walker and Beattie 1838), shows 'Yards' and 'Old Yards' at this location.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 4 December 1997.
