(NL 9916 4539) Dun Ceann a' Bhaigh (NR)

OS 6"map, Argyllshire, 2nd ed., (1900)

The slight remains of the wall of a dun which was demolished about 1870. Pottery, kitchen-midden shells and iron were noticed on the site and in a neighbouring field.

This dun was traditionally said to have been the main one on the island and is said to have housed the armoury of the island.

E Beveridge 1903.

All that can be seen at this site is a robber-trench and grass-covered rubble around the summit of the knoll where presumably the dun wall was once sited.

Visited by OS (D W R ) 26 June 1972.

(NL 9921 4539) Dun Ceann a' Bhaigh (NR) (site of)

OS 1:10,000 map, (1977)

Dun, Dun Ceann a' Bhaigh: As described by OS field surveyor (D W R), the position of this dun is now indicated only by robber-trenches and by a small quantity of grass-grown rubble. It was probably circular on plan, measuring about 20m in diameter over all.

RCAHMS 1980, visited 1973.
