Golden Circle Hotel, c.1966, faced the truck plant brashly; perched above an arched colonnade, a crowned spire as a landmark but all character lost in recent modernisation. Cheap flat-roofed groups of houses with cutaway corners on either side of Bathgate Road have been handsomely enveloped, harled and pitch-roofed by SSHA. Sustained pressure from a residents' group, architectural advisor Tom Henney, has transformed the crude 1960s concrete maisonette slab-and-point blocks of Murrayfield (thrown up in a hurry to accommodate workers for the truck plant) with curious Chinese touches, some slabs reduced to terraces.
