Publication Account (1998)

Nos 115 & 117 High Street, with 3-6 Brunton's Close are interesting eighteenth-century remnants, with later additions and alterations, for example, the nineteenth-century shop windows to the High Street frontage. Not only does the architecture reveal its origins, but the gabled two-storeyed rubble row is a reminder of the earlier street pattern and its associated burgage plots, the row following the original plot lay-out, at right angles to the street. Evidence for the former burgage plots may even lie below the present floor levels.

Information from ‘Historic Dalkeith: The Archaeological Implications of Development’ (1998).
