Philorth House was built by Lord Saltoun in 1666 and it remained the seat of the Lords Saltoun till it was burned on the 25th March 1915 (Simpson 1951). It was added to by Mathews 1858-60 and 1873-4. Little more than the shell of the 1873 wing survives (SDD list).

Philorth House is as described. No trace of the 1666 mansion survives.

A 17th century house built for Lord Saltoun, with 19th century additions (by Mathews), the shell of which still survives. It remained the seat of the Lords Saltoun until burnt in 1915; no trace of the 1666 mansion survives.
There is a sundial with three cherub's heads in the garden of the modern house.
