Note (13 August 2015)

During the early part of the Second World War a open topped brick and concrete pillbox with crenalations was constructed around the David MacBeth Moir monument. A photograph taken during a Home Guard exercise (Hendrie 2002) shows three soldiers with guns pointed looking E along the High Street, sheltering behind the E facing wall. The N wall is also shown as is the metal railings and part of the N side of the monument.

The pillbox has since been removed.
