Dancingcairns Quarries (disused) [NAT]

[Undated] OS 1:10,000 map.

This disused quarry has been almost entirely filled in and landscaped for an Aberdeen City Council golf course (Auchmill). A few large outcrops are exposed, and the scarps of several spoil-tips are visible along the lower, N, side, but the buildings associated with the quarry have been removed. The quarry was opened in the late 18th century by Messers Snell, Rennie and May and its development is depicted on not only the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1869, sheet lxxv; 1902, sheet lxxv.NW), but also the last chart copy of the 1:10,000 map (1987).

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 21 May 2002.

P Morgan 1886.
