(HY 3173 1407) Tumulus (NR)
OS 6" map, Orkney, 2nd ed.,(1903).
'Fairy Knowe, near Quoyer. This large hillock stands near the stream which forms part of the NE boundary of the parish of Stenness, about a quarter of a mile N. of the farm of Quoyer. No remains of any structure are visible, but wome graves are said to have been found in the hillock. The site is under cultivation.'
RCAHMS 1946, visited August 1928.
Although the name 'Fairy Knowe' is not known locally, the positional information and description given above almost certainly refer to the published 'Tumulus' at HY 3173 1407.
This large mound, much ploughed, appears to be natural, and is similar to a series of mounds in adjacent fields. No further information was found concerning the graves alleged to have been found in it.
Revised at 1/2500.
