Situated on the summit of Byres Hill in the Garleton Hills is a tall circualr monument to the Fourth, Earl of Hopetoun. Built in 1824, circular with an internal spiral stairway to parapet and viewing platform.

An original plaque, now unreadable stated "This monument was erected to the memory of the great and good John, Fourth Earl of Hopetoun, by the affectionate and grateful tenantry in East Lothian MDCCCXXIV".
