Archaeology Notes

NJ90NW 1650 9219 0501

Nothing is visible of the steading of this croft, which stood in an area now occupied by housing on the SW side of Forbesfield Road. As depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1869, sheet lxxv), the steading comprised two opposing ranges, aligned roughly NE and SW, with two smaller buildings lying between. At that time the steading seems to have served a large nursery to the E and S, but the land was built over before the end of the 19th century (OS 6-inch map, Aberdeenshire, 2nd edition, 1902, sheet lxxv.SW).

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 29 April 2002.
