Archaeology Notes

NX76SW 55 72900 66901

This intermediate station on the Portpatrick and Wigtownshire Joint Rly (which formed the greater part of the Dumfries-Stranraer 'Port Road') was opened (by the Portpatrick Rly) on 12 March 1861. It closed to regular passenger traffic, with the Stranraer (Challoch Junction) - Dumfries portion of the line, on 14 June 1965.

Standing Building Recording (17 May 2022)

NX 72870 66930 The historic building survey enabled the recording of the surviving elements of the Crossmichael Station Goods Yard. The survey allowed for the identification of the signal box, both the Up and Down Platforms and the loading platform of the sidings. All other buildings relating to the good yards, identified on historic mapping or LiDAR, were not observed on the ground due to the heavy overgrowth of woody vegetation and weeds
