NLO: Aberdeen [name: NJ 95 05].
Location formerly entered as NJ c. 96 05 [N57 8 W2 4], and as NJ c. 961 057 [N57 8.5 W2 4].
(Location of loss cited as 'Aberdeen, Harbour, North Pier').
R Larn and B Larn 1998.
(Classified as steel steam trawler, in ballast: registration cited as A 41, and date of loss as 19 March 1912). Strathyre: [this vessel] stranded opposite the South Breakwater, Aberdeen [Harbour]. [She was] refloated, but [was declared a] constructive total loss and broken up.
Registration: Aberdeen. Built: 1905. 193grt. Length: 34m. Beam: 6m.
(Location of loss cited as N57 8.50 W2 3.50).
I G Whittaker 1998.
(location entered as NJ c. 963 060 [N57 8.7 W2 3.8]). The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary, being derived from that cited by Larn and Larn.
Aberdeen Harbour (NJ90NE 7.00) is centred at NJ 95 05. The North Pier (NJ90NE 7.02) extends from NJ 9590 0570 to NJ 9639 0609. The 'South Breakwater' that is cited by Whittaker is presumably the present feature of that name (NJ90NE 7.05), which extends from NJ 9674 0570 to 9674 0600. This suggests that the vessel stranded near the outer (ENE) end of the North Pier.
The present entrance may be considered to lie at NJ c. 961 057, but this location reflects development towards the East through the construction of successive piers and breakwaters.
