Archaeology Notes

NT27NW 302.01 2295 7580

A group of WW II air-raid shelters were situated immediately inside the fence at the W end of the E block of Ferranti's. Five remained until 2000-1, one group of three to the S of the gate a further two to the N. They were removed when the factory was rebuilt between 2001-2002. The air-raid shelters were for factory workers and appear to be of the 'double 50 person' type.

Information from Defence of Britain Project recording forms, Mr P Calmers and Mr G Thompson, 1997
