Archaeology Notes

NJ95SW 3 c 918 545.

A large unornamented cinerary urn in fragments, found inverted, and covering, apparently, a quantity of burnt bones, at Auchranie, Strichen (? Auchnarie - NJ 918 545) was donated to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) by John Keith, farmer, Auchranie, in April 1867.

Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1887 (Donations).

John Keith was the farmer at Auchrynie, in Old Deer parish at NJ 964 525. (ONB 1880). Possibly this urn is one of those recorded on NJ95SE 7.

Ordnance Survey Name Book (ONB) 1880.

Visited by OS (AA) 17 April 1968.
