Archaeology Notes

NJ90SE 88 9620 0498

See also NJ90SE 1.

All that is now visible of the manse and long range that once stood immediately W of St Fittick's Church (NJ90SE 1) is a length of the ENE side of the range. Measuring 14.5m in length and 1.6m in height, the wall contains a blocked doorway close to its SSE end. The range and the manse are both depicted as roofed on the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Kincardineshire, 1869, sheet iv and 1902, sheet iii.SE).

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 15 April 2002.

Watching Brief (29 April 2019 - 30 April 2019)

A watching brief was conducted in April 2019 for a footpath close to St. Fitticks Church and Manse (NRHE NJ90SE 1 and 88). Work revealed no archaeological features or deposits of interest except a small section of wall related to former steading.

Full Report submitted to Aberdeenshire SMR and NRHE.
