24 May 1884, PENELOPE, 29 yrs old, of Beaumaris, wooden schooner, 87 tons, 4 crew, Master R. Williams, Owner Mrs Davis, Conway, departed Bangor for Newcastle-on-Tyne, carrying slates, collided into by SS PRINCESS ALICE of Glasgow, wind NE5, total loss, about 5 miles E. of Buchan Ness, Aberdeenshire.

PRINCESS ALICE (s). Stornoway, May 26, 7 p.m. The PRINCESS ALICE (s), of Glasgow, arrived here yesterday, reports having collided with the schooner PENELOPE, of Beaumaris, off Buchanness, during a fog on morning of 24th inst. Schooner sunk: crew saved. [Record received incomplete].

NMRS, MS/829/69 (no. 3498).

(Classified as wooden schooner, with cargo of slates: date of loss cited as 24 May 1884). Penelope: this vessel was in collision and sank approximately 5 miles E of Buchan Ness (Princess Alice). Capt. Hughes.

Registration: Beaumaris. Built 1855. 87 tons [unspecified].
