Distinct traces of a moat, traditionally said to be the site of the Castle of Kinmuck, whose stones were used to build the old castle of Ellon (NJ93SE 1).
Shortly before 1867 the moat was filled in and a ditch was cut through the centre of the site.

Thomas Kennedy, Constable of Aberdeen, was the owner of Kinmuck in 1413. His headquarters was thought to have been a stone tower standing on low ground near the present farm-house of Mains of Kinmuck or Kermuck. Examination in 1947 of the site marked on OS Map revealed no trace. The Kennedies are judged to have erected the Old Castle of Ellon between 1413 and 1500.

Faint traces of a circular ditch enclosing an area approximately 40.m in diameter are still evident in cultivated fields N and S of the modern ditch mentioned in the Name Book. Insufficient survives for accurate survey. 'Castle of Kinmuck' is the locally accepted spelling.
