Watching Brief (22 July 2019 - 1 August 2019)
NS 72593 55441 A watching brief was carried out prior to the development of a hotel. The work took place between 22 July and 1 August 2019.
The excavation was focused within the footprint of the Hamilton Town Hotel, a classified 19th Century ‘C’ listed building (Canmore ID: 202976) and in the yard area to the rear.
The archaeological remains found at Townhead Street consisted of modern flooring, manholes, and remaining foundations from the hotel. A previously unknown well was located on the site and recorded. No other significant archaeological remains were discovered during the watching brief.
