Desk Based Assessment (28 June 2016)

Nothing remains to be seen on a site now occupied by a car breaking yard on the S bank of the River Clyde of the original London Works. As depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Renfrewshire 1857, Sheet VIII), the works comprised a site measuring about 3.5ha in extent and containing a number of large buildings and a forge. By the 1890s the site had expanded onto vacant ground to the SW and incorporated a formerly independent shipyard that adjoined its NW end. Of the buildings shown on the 2nd edition of the map (1898, Sheet V.NE), only the large fabrication shed (NS 50443 68536) appears to still exist.

Information from RCAHMS (JRS) 7 January 2015.
