Field Visit (4 July 1996)

NN02SW 86 0360 2252 and 0362 2250

There are two buildings in a deciduous wood above the W bank of the Kilchrenan Burn.

The better preserved of the two structures (LORN96 429) lies on the edge of the woodland (NN 0360 2252) and comprises a rectangular hut 3.3m from E to W by 2.6m transversely within a wall 0.8m thick and up to 1m high. The entrance is in the E end wall.

The second building (LORN96 430), which lies to the SE at NN 0362 2250, has been levelled into a gravel bank and was probably a kiln-barn. It is T-shaped on plan, with the barn forming the cross member of the T situated at the front of the platform. The barn measures about 8m from E to W by 4.2m transversely within a much-ruined wall. What is probably the remains of a kiln, measuring 3.2m by 3.0m, lies to the rear of the barn.
