Two Nissen huts are visible on RAF WW II vertical air photographs (WL 10, 2 115-2 116, flown 4 July 1942 at Scult of Laward to the E of Sumburgh Airfield. By the date of the immediate postwar series (106G/Scot/UK 97, 4029-4030, flown 18 May 1946), one hut had been removed.

The stone built structure (c.HU 4095 1025) noted by Purdy (A Purdy 1996) is also viisble on both sets of air photographs.
