Archaeology Notes

NM65NW40 centred on 6468 5845

Fragmentary traces of a dyke, a small area of rig and an enclosure, all situated on the W bank of Allt a Chamais Ghlais opposite Camasglas, were recorded during a pre-afforestation survey of Rahoy Estate. At NM 6463 5852, the dyke which is turf-covered, measures 0.9m in width and stands 0.7m in height. It is about 35m long. To the SSE at NM 6468 5845, there are seven or eight rigs running from N to S, about 2m apart. A single clearance cairn, measuring 4m by 3m overall, lies on the N side of the plot.

At NM 6466 5839, there is an enclosure measuring up to 30m by 20m and defined by fragmentary walls, up to 1m wide and 0.4m high.
