Field Visit (5 July 1996)

NN02SW 39.07 0074 1953

On the N bank of the Cam Allt there is a farmstead, comprising a building and two enclosures, together with a head-dyke and some rig. The building measures 7.9m fom ENE to WSW by 4.3m transversely within faced-rubble walls 0.7m in thickness and up to 1m in height with an entrance on the SSE. A narrow enclosure has been formed between the building and the head-dyke on the N, which runs off E and W. Immediately N of the head-dyke, on a rise about 60m to the E of the building, there is a patch of rig. The second enclosure, which is roughly square on plan, is situated on the W bank of the burn.

The building, the head-dyke and the enclosure to the W of the burn are depicted on the 1st edition OS 6-inch map, but an additional enclosure shown to the ENE of the building was not observed on the date of survey (Argyllshire 1875, sheet cxii); the building had already been abandoned by that date.
