Archaeology Notes

HY31NE 16 3742 1840.

HY 374 184. A well-preserved, Class IV, looped-and-socketed LBA bronze spearhead, just under 5 1/2 ins long, was found about 1942 by T.Aitken, Nether House, while cutting peats about 450 yds east of his house. It lay at a depth of 4 1/2 ft in clay and below the peat.

It now forms part of the Aitken Collection at Nether House.

Mr Aitken indicated the site at HY 3742 1840 where the spearhead was found. It is as described: it is the only item in the Aitken Collection.

Find-spot surveyed at 1/2500.
