Caterline, 23rd Dec., 11.45 a.m., the JOHANNA (brig), of Boroen, Pearson, is ashore on Cowie beach here: crew saved by L.S.A., of Stonehaven. The FOLDIN (barq.), of Sandefjord, is also ashore here: no persons on board: both vessels are total wrecks.

Aberdeen, 25th Dec., the following losses have occurred in this neighbourhood: JOHANNA, of Nykjobing, Corsin: VIDER, of Arundel, Gutterson (?VIDAR of Arendal, Guttormsen): ENIGHED, of 'Tvistrand', Christensen, all coal laden, wrecked: crews saved. Also a supposed large barque.

(Classified as wooden brig, in ballast: date of loss cited as 22 December 1876). Johanna: this vessel stranded [on] Cowie Rocks, near Stonehaven. Capt. Pedersen (Capt. Petersen?).
Registration: Tvedestrand [Norway]. Built 1861. 326 tons register.

Cowie Rocks are not noted as such on the 1997 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but the name evidently applies to some or all of the extensive areas of rock that form the shore in front of Cowie, between NO c. 877 863 and NO c. 888 72.
