Watching Brief (February 1968)
Two wells were discovered in February 1968 during work on the foundations of an extension to Dundee Technical College, Bell Street. The first was at NO 401 306, the second at NO 400 306 approximately 100yds WSW of the first. Both were of dry-stone walling and slightly corbelled towards the top. At the mouth, both were approximately 5' in diameter. They are now concreted over.
The wells are on the site of the former Chapelshade flax, hessian and sacking works and it seems likely that they were used to provide water for steam employed at the works.
