Activities

Standing Building Recording (3 April 2015 - 15 June 2015)

A programme of Historic Building Recording works is required by William Lippe architects on behalf of Mr Martin Gilbert in respect of the conversion of former prison buildings to residential use and the redevelopment of the former prison complex including the erection of new dwellinghouses providing 41 residential units including affordable housing at the former HM Prison Noranside, Fern, Forfar, DD8 3RB (NGR: NO 472 611). The programme of works was undertaken on several visits which took place between the 11th-13th May and on 18th May 2015. The purpose of the building recording was to investigate and record the surviving elements of the eighteenth and nineteenth century Noranside House, Stable Block and carry out a photographic survey of the Gardner's Cottage and Walled Garden which all formed part of the former Noranside Prison, Forfar. The aims of the exercise were to provide a baseline record of the extant structures prior to the conversion of the former prison buildings to residential use and the redevelopment of the wider prison complex, including the erection of new dwellinghouses providing 41 residential units.
