Archaeology Notes

NO24SE 99 29561 41481

Location formerly cited as NO 2956 4146.

Not to be confused with Old Station (Dundee and Newtyle Rly terminus, at NO 29958 41361), for which see NO24SE 62.

Station [NAT]

OS (GIS) ep. 3.

This intermediate station on the Dundee-Auchterhouse-Alyth Junction branch line of the former Caledonian Rly was opened (by that company) on 31 August 1868. It closed to regular passenger traffic on 10 January 1955.

This station may be considered as replacing the 'old' (terminal) station (NO24SE 62) on the construction of a new track formation (the 'deviation' of 1864) to join the former Dundee and Newtyle Rly with the Stirling-Perth-Kinnaber Junction ('Strathmore') main line.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 20 April 2006.

R V J Butt 1995.
