Classification formerly entered as Motor Trawler.
The six-man crew of the oil rig stand-by vessel Sheriffmuir were rescued by tractor and trailer yesterday when their vessel ran aground in dense fog three miles from Aberdeen harbour.
The former Lowestoft trawler grounded at 5.00 am, 40 yards from the beach just below Murcar golf clubhouse [CH [NAT] at NJ 957 122: OS 1:150,000 map, 1999]. Coastguards secured a breeches buoy to the ship at about 6.00 am, but the crew had radioed Aberdeen Coastguard HQ to say they could wait until the tide had ebbed so that they could walk ashore. But just after mid day a tractor and trailer was driven out to the stranded trawler and the crew climbed down a ladder and into the trailer.
