Archaeology Notes

NJ80SE 28 c. 899 021.

A short cist containing an adult human skull and an urn was dug up in forming that part of the turnpike road which passes through the estate of Ardoe (House at NJ 8946 0167).

New Statistical Account (NSA) 1845

In the early 19th century, during the construction of the South Deeside turnpike, a cist (0.75m by 0.6m) was discovered near Cotbank; it contained a skull and an 'urn'. The cist was reconstructed at Banchory House (NJ 9135 0229; NJ90SW 10).
