Dunnichen Church closed for worship on 21st August 2011. The simple rectangular 4 bay church with west bellcote was built in 1802 at the behest of the local landowner and principal heritor George Dempster. His family is commemorated in the church. In 1817 the local sandstone tile roof timber roof structure was replaced with lighter scotch slate. In 1883 the church was re-seated and the session house added all at a cost of £341 2/5. It is recorded that there have been at least two earlier churches on the site but apart from the East-West orientation there is nothing to suggest earlier fabric in the existing building but if the cementicious harl was removed the walls should be examined. The church retains an unusual pair of lecturns and a richly carved communion table.

Standing Building Recording (30 June 2017)
A programme of Historic Building Recording works required in respect of the change of use and alterations to the former Dunnichen Parish Church to form a dwellinghouse and change of use of vacant ground to garden ground (NGR: NO 5095 4877). The development has been granted planning consent by Aberdeenshire Council (Planning Ref No 16/00046/FULL). The works were designed to create a competent record of the historic elements of the parish church before conversion. The historic building recording survey, undertaken on 30th June 2017, confirmed that Dunnichen Church has been heavily modernised internally, however there have not been any major alterations to the structural fabric of the interior of exterior of the building.
