Standing Building Recording (8 August 2022)
NO 64535 41065 On 8 August 2022 a historic building survey was carried out of St John’s Methodist Church, prior to development. The work was required as part of planning consent and listed building consent on a refurbishment plan for the building which will see the removal of the stair and gallery over the nave and other alterations.
St John’s Methodist Church was constructed in 1772 and is an interesting example of an octagonal plan church, as well as being the second Methodist church constructed in Scotland. The church, like many during the 19th century, underwent significant alteration with the addition of a porch, gallery level and a church hall. The internal features, fixtures and fittings reflect these 19th- century alterations, and there have also been later 20th- and 21st- century modernisations, including a kitchen and toilet suite added to the SW side.
