In a survey of the boundary stones of the Freedom Lands (NJ80NE 3) carried out in 1698, there is mentioned '...ane great stone, with an sauser and ane Cairn...' that stood on the farm of Kirkhill in front of Newhills Convalescent Home on the brow of the hill Between Sclettie and Crabston. The stone used to stand near the present, post-1790 boundary stone marked ABD 40.

D B Gunn 1929

No trace was found of the cup-marked boundary stone but the post 1790 stone still stands against the south face of a dry stone dyke at NJ 8750 0968.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 26 October 1961.

(Name cited as Newhills Home, at location Kirkhills Farm).

NMRS, MS/712/75.

This granite boundary stone is situated against the face of a stone wall on the NE side of a small field of pasture. Rectangular in section, it measures 0.3m in breadth by 0.19m in thickness and 0.3m in height. The top of the SW face is bevelled and bears the incised letters ABD below the number 40. Nothing is now visible of the boundary marker bearing a single cupmark noted at this location in 1698.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, ATW), 26 February 1997.
