Standing Building Recording
Fifteen buildings in the Kirkwall Conservation Area (and one in Stromness) have been recorded using the Scotland’s Urban Past rapid recording method. (Canmore IDs: 193025, 266003, 186269, 339142, 2582, 256244, 2583, 2584, 256246, 255693, 255695, 256247, 2586, 1516). The work took place March to June 2019.
Volunteers were trained in collaboration with Scotland’s Urban Past (Historic Environment Scotland) and then supported to record buildings by ORCA. A Kirkwall focused archive research workshop was undertaken by Dr Sarah Jane Gibbon (UHI Archaeology Institute). Additional building recording will be undertaken by volunteers.
