Prince Consort, Leith and Clyde's fine steamer, struck on the rocks within 3 miles of Aberdeen, and became a total wreck. The fog was so thick that the rocks were not observed until the vessel was almost upon them. She struck what is known as Alen (Altens) Rock just opposite the fishing village of Burnbank [Burnbanks]. Her head swung round to the sea, and she went broadside on to another rock some 300 yards further to the south.
[There then follows a long report].
